I had to write a mission possible story for a work event… personal or professioanl story/situation that you thought was a mission impossible, but then succeeded in making it possible.
After much debat I decided this story would be appropriate.
I have always wanted to travel by myself. I am still not sure why. I have heard so many stories of the experience and the sense of accomplishment. I just wanted to prove to myself I could do it. As a 22 year old female, I would be taking this to a new level venturing to Central America. Talk about out of my comfort zone; I had never even been to a restaurant alone.
The best way I could think of to make this mission possible was to start telling people about my plan to travel the world. Once I had told my friends and family I knew I wouldn’t be able to back out. So I went to the nearest flight center and bought a ticket. Over my Christmas Break I planned to fly into Guatemala City. (How convenient my student loan had just come in). I had 3 weeks to travel through 5 countries and catch a plane in San Jose, Costa Rica. I had one hotel reservation, a copy of the Lonely Planet and a pocket Spanish language book.
Boarding the plane was one of the scariest things I have done, but I kept walking. Found my seat, took a deep breath and off I went.
Three weeks is really not a long time and by the time I made it to San Jose I was sad it was over. The experiences I had, both good and bad, and the people I met along the way; made this a once in a lifetime, unforgettable adventure. I returned to Canada with an appreciation for the country I call home, a rejuvenated sense of self and a new definition of possible.
Now to find a mission possible outfit…
